Question:
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Until Microsoft decides to go into the auction business, we are stuck with them. Could you begin to imagine the fee structure if M$ got involved? What do you mean "if M$ got involved". They already are involved in with eBay. Meg signed a $5,000,000 contract with MS back in 2000 to allow MS to harvest our information. On CSPAN in 2000, around April, I think it was, they had deliberations or sessions in Washington, DC with various computer companies and it was stated that now that eBay was in bed with MS that by 2005 eBay would be merely a retail level/mall level server and MS would take over the auction side of the house and would for the 1st year offer free listing to it’s members to bring them to MS side.
So I guess I shouldn’t give up the day job. Then again, I need that day job to subsidize my ebay selling. Hmm – guess I’ll be able to retire in 2005.
Response:
Now why on earth would a company that already harvests information from a customer base that makes ebay look like a corner shop pay out such a sum? You really should stop reading the gossip columns.
I must read the same gossip column. Besides, $5 million is spit to Microflaccid. — “Behind every successful organization stands one person who knows the secret of how to keep the managers away from anything truly important.”

Everything that has taken place since then on eBay is gearing towards that. They came out with eBay’s acquiring Half.com to handle to small time ebayers for now until MS takes it over for auctions, eBay has open eBay stores and caters primarily to retailers and wholesalers, liquidation houses and such, eBay instituted BIN on the auction side as well as Fixed price item which caters to the same level group and just recently had a live chat class on working with wholesalers on the auction side in hopes to allow the auction side to grow so that most of it would be liquidation, wholesalers, etc. Everything that was predicted back in 2000 is coming to pass about eBay. Despite the front they awfully make an attempt to make that they still want the small fry there publicly, but inside sources say otherwise. So y’all might as well gear up to be out of eBay for auctions by 2005 and establish yourselves at other online auction venues and such or jump the banwagon and open an eBay store, or become a liquidator, wholesaler for the eBay stores as well as the auction side of the house. Y’all really should start attending some of those eBay live chat classes, or eBay university, or power sellers sessions to see what is really happening. There are lots of other sites but without registering it is hard to guage. I don’t hear anyone offering up any suggestions so maybe if I send them another 20 emails I can retun to the fold.

Unprofessional, slow, and unable to resolve the simplest of difficulties, ebay is starting to look pretty bad.
Sounds like the rest of the internet. There was a MAJOR mssql hack this weekend – keep that in mind. I work for an ISP and our engineers were up almost all night making sure everything was OK. I’m looking for anywhere else to sell, would prefer somewhere that knows how to treat clients like human beings.
You probably won’t find that with ANY auction site – at least one where you’ll find results. (I’m sure if you sell on podunctauctions.com, you’ll get a human voice on the phone, but will your product sell?) Ebay has got to take a major-league hit, and soon, they need a few thousand top sellers to desert them suddenly and with no explanation, which is essentially the way they treat their clients.
Not gonna happen. The big bucks sellers don’t care, nor do they need the human response. However the big bucks sellers are PowerSeller, and get a phone number and web form to contact ebay. Money talks, $h1t walks.. Man, if you had ever experienced the kind of screw-up we just went through with these impersonal jerks then you would boycott them absolutely.
Which was what? Where else can one sell online ? There has to be a few places that know how to run a fair business.
See above…. podunctauctions.com …

One would think that a person of your discerning tastes would know how to do the minimal research to find other sites. One is apparently wrong.

Customer service? I don’t know of any other sites that would be an improvement. But if you are looking for an alternative and don’t require instant results I would recommend moving 1/3 to 1/2 of your listings to Yahoo. Depending on what you sell, you will have less turnover but will keep more of the profits for each transaction on Yahoo. If you are going to yank every item that doesn’t sell the first time around it probably isn’t worth your effort.

Until Microsoft decides to go into the auction business, we are stuck with them. I sold 26 items for about $850 today. You need to learn to girt and bear it, and work with the system as it is. Can empathize, but hey, let us know when you find another place that actually has buyers, eh? Mac

It’s called a Monopoly. Yes, there is good and bad. But when the does settles, I love eBay and so does my wallet.
