Question:
Fred, Although Ebay has different pages of information contradicting themselves vis a vis this policy I think you are right. There seems to be a "new" policy (don’t know when "new" is) that states what you claim. Thanks for the help. Toby – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have read the ebay policies about linking to other web sites but am now more confused than ever about what is and what is not allowed. If you figuire it out, explain it to ebay. Here’s my situation: I manufacture a product that is offered for sale on my company web site. I own the company. I would like to auction this product via ebay with a minimum bid that is lower than any price listed on my web site. Under this circumstance can I provide a link to my site within my ebay auction? Under the latest rules, I think the answer is no. You can, however, link to an explanatory page on your (or someone else’s) website, just not a sales page. For example, if your product has a bunch of related technical specs that would be of interest to a buyer, you could link to that tech specs page. You can also link to your own website from your ME page, just not from a listing itself. The idea is that listings are for selling, not for redirecting people to other pages. I see people with similar products doing this but the ebay policies are somewhat nebulous in this regard. "Other people" have been known to break the rules, too. They get away with it until someone reports them. Also, my product has a label that has my company name and web site. I would like to include a photo of this product on my auction page. Is this allowed? At least for now, yes. It’s not a clickable link.

What will eBay do with my item location? : http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1182568807+ eBay sent me the message below 2 months ago. What will happen? I know and i have various emails from safe harbor to the effect and not one of them will answer what i did wrong other than i used the words "check out my website" with NO Link whatsoever…After email back and forth between safe harbor and myself i figured it was useless as they stated i can Contest my suspension via certified mail to headquarters..Yanno, i will just ride it out and not beg them to be reinstated "it has been fruitless" and go on with my auctions on the other sites..One cannot fight a big corporate with deep pockets who could care less about this mom and pop seller…Thanks for your replys..Good Luck

Sassy, You are the first person I have heard of having their account suspended for violation of the web link rule. I have been waiting to find out if they actually would do this to someone. It seems to me that you might have legal action against eBay since they obviously and deliberately have NOT suspended some of the major posters that have actual links to their personal web sites. Just some food for thought. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – i was suspended from ebay for 30 days or so for stating in my ad to "check out my website" with NO clickable link..I did not even provide the web address..Just the words "check out my website" i do have a website with no checkout or way for anyone to purchase off the ebay site other than sending me an email as i just have produced my website..Thing that kill’s me is ebay suspended me with no reason viable whatsoever other than using the words"check out my website" Ebay will lose alot of good sellers doing business in a way which they cannot even clarify there own rules and thats a shame!!

At least for now, yes. It’s not a clickable link. — If we could just get everyone to close their eyes and visualize world peace for an hour, imagine how serene and quiet it would be until the looting started.
