Newbie PayPal question

Question:

Thanks for verifying — guess I’ll try giving it a go, then. Fair warning– I’ll probably be back with more questions (like how to get that little logo thingie on my Sell Item page). I appreciate the help. Bob "You can’t wake someone who is pretending to be asleep." (Navajo proverb) ******remove last "a" to e-mail******

Response:

If you feel uneasy about giving them your bank account number, you don’t have to. I didn’t do it until recently, just had them send money via snail mail check. I don’t have a credit card linked to my account either as so far I have only used it for accepting payment. One thing of interest, I used my boyfriend’s referral number to sign up, but since I didn’t register any account, he didn’t get a bonus. Well, I figured that was that, but when I did go ahead and verify, I got my bonus and he got his too, after like 2 months! Cynthia

Btw, anyone know why they push you to "register" a bank account with them? Why do they care? Excuse my ignorance, but what is the cost to the seller for using PayPal, if

They say it is to make sure you are who say you are.   Probably a good idea.

Hmmm… I would feel reluctant to spread around my account #s just to prove that I’m in fact simpleton Greives like I say I am. Actually, a while ago I got a letter from them (paypal) with some humongous number that the letter said I gotta enter next time I’m at paypal’s so they can verify if my address is good. The funny thing is, I never did! And now they seem to have removed this funny-number-entry capability and ask for a bank account instead. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense… When I’ve requested a check, they didn’t bug me for this number either and I got a confirmation note that I’ll get the check in a week or two. We’ll see. I really like the service though, very convenient. Probably a good idea.

Be careful with paypal.   If your bid goes sour, this is if you post your funds in payment for an auction you won and the item doesn’t arrive,  paypal will not back you.   It happened to me.  I had to go to my credit card company to have the money returned.  I canceled paypal for there attitude in this situation.   Ebay also didn’t do a darn thing, they got there money. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Btw, anyone know why they push you to "register" a bank account with them? In a single word, "NO".   If you have a dispute they require to wait 30 days before taking any auction. They will send you a letter on condolence.  FACT, it happened to me.  I canceled my account.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the cost to the seller for using PayPal, if any? Do they take a percentage bite out of each purchase the way eBay does? From their website (what I could access anyway) and recent news stories, I get the impression that it’s free — that they’re sort of like a free checking account, that gets to use your money to earn interest while it’s there. Am I wrong on this? For the past year I’ve only accepted mail payments, but I had my first customer ask whether I would sign up with PayPal last week. Thanks! No cost to the seller for having buyers use paypal.I love paypal’s convenience and have always received their checks quickly and never had one check not arrive.Once paypal contacts me the item is shipped out right away with no worries and costs. At first I would withdraw a check for each transaction, but have decided for the total to add up to a thousand dollars before withdrawing. * Sent from Novell Discussion Forums http://novell.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

Depends on the kind of PayPal account you have. The regular account is free, no percentage taken out at all! I think the business account may take a small percentage. I’ve been more of an occasional seller, and only signed up for PayPal this summer, but I’m in love with it! I finally verified a bank account with them yesterday. Anyway, it was a customer that got me thinking about it, and I’ve been glad I did. It’s nice for both eBay and stuff I sell off my website. Cynthia
