I agree 105% percent. I deal with hundreds of auctions every day. I answer probably 50-75 emails everyday. It pays to be polite. My .02 as mainly a bidder: When I see terms that appear dictatorial or one-sided (e.g. stating you will *not* verify payment receipt, etc.), I stay away. I don’t demand payment receipt verification via email as a condition on a deal, but if enough time goes by and my check/MO had not been cashed, I inquire politely (if it’s lost in the mail, I want to hold up my end of the deal by stopping payment and replacing it). I did quite a bit a research on this topic. A pattern formed quickly. In every instance that I found hardyboy left negative feedback (sometimes multiples) against his customers at the slightest provocation. Most responses claim he is nasty, rude, and vulgar. The most interesting thing is about the people he put negative feedback on. In Every example, he was the only person to bad mouth these people. Every other transaction went though smoothly, except for hardyboy’s. Now that sounds fishy to me. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – If I were you, I would use it.. Ouch. That’s one way to scare off bidders. I would NEVER EVER bid on an item if the seller posted such negative terms like that, no matter how good a deal it was. [snip] If the seller assumes I’m a deadbeat before I even bid, I’ll just find it somewhere else
Yup. I agree. As a Buyer, I tend to shy away from Sellers with low feedback. And I think twice before bidding on auctions from AOL Sellers [*]. If the Seller has included "counterproductive" terms, regardless of their feedback, I’ll move on to another auction. As a Seller, I really don’t care much about the Buyer’s feedback rating. If they pay, I will ship. If they don’t pay, I’ll perform whatever level of liver-ripping is appropriate. Then move on. [*] AOLers. sigh. 90% of the Buyers and Sellers I’ve had difficulties with over the past 5 years (eBay and elsewhere) have been AOLers. – Dan. | South Jersey, USA, Earth <http://users.snip.net/~darmok |

You’d lose my business in the first three lines. People don’t like you to assume they are thieves, and honest, serious bidders are the ones who are going to be offended most of all. You are saying up front that you won’t notify them when the payment is received, that you won’t notify them when the item is shipped. It puts all of the risk of delays in the mail on the buyer, while giving them no opportunity to resolve the matter. You basically tell them, "I don’t offer any customer service after the sale, but if you miss my deadlines by one minute, I won’t warn you, I’ll just nail your hide to the wall." Look at it from a different perspective, would you buy from someone who told you that? Dealing with customers, including the unreasonable ones, is part of operating a retail business. Trying to avoid that is going to solve your problems by eliminating your customers. I think you’re cutting off your nose to spite your face. Some of my best customers have been people with feedback under 10. The legitimate people are very careful at that point, they are anxious to earn feedback points and go out of their way to behave properly.
