Question:
Thanks for the clear explanation! In # 3, regarding the if PayPal is the only Internet payment method mentioned in your auctions"…. how in the world would Pay Pal know that? I can’t imagine they go reading auction ad copy to see if there is compliance for that "rebate".
Register to your paypal account each of your eBay userids and whatever email addresses a customer might use. For the Preferred program, PayPal uses a robot to search your auction for appropriate key words & phrases. Does pay pal charge to use the debit card (transaction fee), or are there certain ATM machines that will be free?
There are NO fees to use your card as a MasterCard. But as an ATM/Cash card, I’m not so sure anymore! When I first got my PayPal card, almost a year ago now, I used it at a local WaWa to withdraw some cash. Those machines are run by PNC Bank, and supposedly are free. It was free – no fee at all. But last week, I used it at a WaWa and got hit with a $1 fee! Donno if it was PayPal or PNC dinging me. : I *know* that if I use a Mellon ATM here in S.Jersey, I’ll be charged a $3 fee. The fee is higher in PA. It’s applied by Mellon and happens to everyone that doesn’t have a Mellon card. – Dan. — – South Jersey, USA, Earth <http://cronus.spaceports.com/~darmok

I do not belong to pay pal . I am considering doing c2it, however I don’t know how many buyers would even use c2it because Pay Pal seems more popular everywhere. (although I like the idea of a real bank making transactions instead of a pseudo bank like paypal)
Yea, a real bank can fuck you harder then hide behind banking privacy to get away with it. My housemate opened a c2it account several months ago. He’s STILL fighting them over a bogus transaction. (They knabbed $80 from his account). – Dan. — – South Jersey, USA, Earth <http://cronus.spaceports.com/~darmok

once funds are received in your paypal account, how do you get them dispersed to you and is there a charge for getting your funds out to use?
Just to add to Dave’s reply… I’ve never had PayPal cut a check to me. Just seemed like too much effort and time and $. Sometimes I have PayPal transfer funds back into my checking account. That’s free, and only takes one to three days to clear. By doing it early in the day, or late on Sundays, I’ve had transfers clear in less than a day! But mostly I just use my PayPal Debit/MasterCard. Works great! I use it all over the place, so much so that I didn’t renew my regular bank account’s ATM card this year. I also signed up for their "Preferred" program. That gives you 1.5% credited to your account on all your MasterCard purchases, as long as PayPal is the only online payment option on your eBay listings. They verify this once a week or so by perusing your auctions with a robot. Many places, like grocery stores and the USPS, will give you cash back when making a purchase. If you use this, you not only get the 1.5% credited but you also avoid the local ATM fees! FWIW, – Dan. — – South Jersey, USA, Earth <http://cronus.spaceports.com/~darmok

You are allowed to mention BillPoint, etc. in your End of Auction email to your buyer. You just can’t use eBay Payments in your Auction or mention BillPoint, etc. PayPal has robots which examine your auctions for use of words like BillPoint, etc. on a periodic basis. You could probably get around that by mentioning BillPoint in text embedded in a jpg or gif image file. PayPal would have no way of detecting that. PayPal charges a fee if you use the debit card in an ATM. If you use it as a normal credit card, there is no fee. I don’t know of any ATMs where it is free. I assume any store that lets you take cash back from your debit card purchase could get you cash with no fee. For example, you could go to your post office, buy one 34 cent stamp, and ask for $50.00 back. I haven’t tried this.

(although I like the idea of a real bank making transactions instead of a pseudo bank like paypal) My question about pay-pal is they have personal and business accounts. Can people who are sellers but don’t operate a business use a personal account to receive auction payments via pay-pal? What would the limitations be? Also, if a person signs up for a business account, does that mean they have to have a business or a business bank account? And finally, once funds are received in your paypal account, how do you get them dispersed to you and is there a charge for getting your funds out to use? Thanks for time and info. I have tried reading their various FAQ’s but it is still not making sense to me.

1. PayPal’s personal accounts can’t receive credit card payments, so they are almost useless for receiving payments from eBay. 2. PayPal has two kinds of accounts for sellers, Premiere and Business. If you don’t have a formal business, you want Premiere. 3. To get your funds out, PayPal will mail the money to you as a check, but will charge you $1.50 for it. I get my funds out using either a PayPal debit card (use it just like a credit card, and get a 1.5% rebate if PayPal is the only Internet payment method mentioned in your auctions) or by having PayPal transfer the money directly to my checking account. I use the debit card only a couple times a week. I use my PayPal earnings to pay my mortgage each month, so my usual way of getting the money out is to request the checking account transfer whenever my PayPal balance hits $100-$150, usually a few times a week. In my case, it takes two to three days for the money to be credited to my account.
