Paypal's back up and Billpoint junk fees…

Question:

Agreed! And though I do see a lot of anti paypal remarks in this newsgroup I myself think it is great. I would prefer that it were absolutely free but then that’s not the real world.  As they are now I have no problems at all with their fees. The majority of my buyers use it and it is fast. If I am ’shopping’ for an item on ebay and I find that several different seller are listing that particular item, I have to decide which one to go with. Whether they accept paypal or not is usually a determining factor for me.

The difference may be due to inefficiencies or transaction volume between a large bank and a small credit union (in my case). Regardless, the real difference is Paypal charges nothing for transferring your funds while Billpoint milks another 0.5% out of you! -Bert Did you say "Paypal’s next day transfer" ? It always takes 3 or 4 days for my paypal deposits to reach my bank. Am I missing something?

You’re right, Paypal’s electronic transfers also take three to four days – heck, it sez so in big letters right under the link when you go in to withdraw funds. So both BP and PP take about the same amount of time for electronic deposits. Before you buy.

Same here, Mr. Haney! I do a phone confirmation with my bank and if the person with the chit has contacted my bank, they tell me I have a "pending" transaction. When I transfer Paypal funds, it has been five days (or more!) before my bank tells me I have a "pending transaction". When I use Billpoint, within about three days the money is IN my account. No "pending"! Billpoint does not promise me "next business day transfer" yet the money gets there soonest. Paypal states "next business day transfer" and they have yet to follow through. Since Paypal was down all day — the site is up now (11:00 p.m. PST) by the way — I had to switch to Billpoint to accept payments for my completed auctions but I really missed Paypal’s low fees and flexible policies. Not only does Billpoint charge higher fees, they also tackle another half a percent fee to transfer the money to your bank. Unlike Paypal’s next day transfer, Billpoint fund transfer has an automatic 3-day delay. Arrgh! I’ve only recently started to deal with these outfits but so far Paypal is better by far and I don’t get Billpoint’s arbitrary $500 limit on non-merchant accounts. Does anybody actually think that Billpoint is better? – Bert
