This person is having a real problem

Question:

Unless the guys involved in some fraud or his assets were frozen by the courts. It’s interesting how everyone jumps to the conclusion that the guy has been wronged.

OK, right or wrong, the fact that Paypal is now going to charge us transaction fees, I prefer not to let a couple of hundred bucks sit in my account any more. Why should they make money on the float and charge us a fee? Personally I have decided to withdraw my money a couple of times a week instead up letting it just sit in there. It’s just a personal choice for me. Kimberly

So they are letting the world know about it. I like Paypal but when I read stuff like this it makes me paranoid. I went ahead and emptied my Paypal account after reading this. I don’t think that I’ll let my money sit in there any more since they are going to start charging us to use their service anyway. :( This person posted to the Barbie board, of all places, last night. Yea.  His blithering aside, there’s definately a lot the guy isn’t telling us.  PayPal has specific policies for dealing with single-case problems.  Must have been something a lot bigger to cause them to restrict his whole account! The guy also admits he hit every paypal email address he could find.   Almost sounds like email-bombing. At this point, I give his "auction" & statements a very low credibility factor.  But jury’s out… – Dan. — – South Jersey, USA, Earth  <http://www.crosswinds.net/~darmok – Billions of people walking around – like Happy Meals with legs.

I have heard of this before, I believe the idea is that Paypal makes most of their money by investing the money that they have, since most people empty their accounts every couple of days they get in to trouble with it, apparently this does not happen to you if you get a business account and bite the bullet and pay the fee’s 2% is fair considering that is about half of what every other merchant account costs. — David Saad Internet Sales Manager Muzo Mine Emerald Co. Response:

His "read this paypal story" description gives no reason why his account was frozen other than "administrative reasons." He must know what those reasons are, but he doesn’t say. Such as "someone paid me through PayPal  and they claim I never sent the item."

As I understand his complaint, that’s all the explanation he has received from Paypal. He might not have a clue.  It’s possible that one or more of his buyers turned out to have used fraudulent credit cards (that has been a reason for Paypal to freeze accounts in the past).  It’s even possible that the buyers’ accounts were legitimate, but they scored too low on the rating system that a Paypal subcontractor uses to detect fraudulent credit card use.  I was just reading an article (wired.com, I think, tho I could be wrong) about that company’s problems  with generating false fraud reports. We’ll probably  never know what actually happened.  But it does sound like Paypal has a communication problem; I’d certainly expect a better explanation than "administrative reasons," even if the reasons were legit. But Vic’s point is: because we are only hearing one side of the situation (the side of the guy with the suspended account, who is pissed at Paypal and obviously not objective) jumping to a conclusion as to who’s at fault would be premature. For all we know, PayPal DID tell the guy why he’s suspended.  He just isn’t telling anyone else.

I’d like to know why he still has working Paypal buttons on his other auctions. —   "Poodles are space aliens who think they’ve disguised    themselves as dogs."  - Paghat the Ratgirl http://www.drizzle.com/~das

I’d be willing to bet that the guy had a lot of complaints, probably about non-shipments and stuff.  Or setting up fake accounts to get the $5 referral fee or something.  I wouldn’t worry about it.

PayPal didn’t require signing up with a social security number, so how would they know it was him? (I’m talking about creditors, or whoever).

The US and State govt. agencies have been ordering bank accounts frozen for years (backdue taxes, alimony or child support, etc.), and I’ll bet this guy never let it bother him as long as it was happening to someone else.  A bit like having your neighbors sent to Siberia:  as long as it doesn’t happen to YOU, it’s just fine. Supposedly, the last time there was a flap over Paypal freezing seller accounts, Paypal said it would only freeze the amount involved in the possible fraud, not the whole account.  (I haven’t seen this statement myself, but several posters on the AW discussion boards have mentioned it.) GK

Well, we don’t know either.  We’re jumping to conclusions thinking PayPal is "good", simply because they’re big.  The Big guys aren’t always right.

Any institution that has ties to the FDIC, etc. eventually becomes just another federal agency, when it gets right down to the nutcuttin’. I betcha this guy has a tax problem & here he is sitting exposed in a public forum, advertising a bank account. That’s like pouring bloody chum in the waters as far as the feds are concerned. Pay Pal could have been under orders to not notify him before freezing the account.  Happens all the time. Rod

It’s not safe under a mattress or in my billfold around here. My husband finds it and spends it at Academy. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stood in line at the store thinking that I was going to pay with cash only to discover that he had already emptied my wallet. Good thing I carry a pulse card.
