Question:
Saw the selling activity was down in December based on the total item count chart posted. Does anyone know where I can find the buying/browsing activity chart? Andale would be in a good position to post this information if they like. From what I have been selling, it appears the visiting count has drop down to 25%-40%. Thats really bad. How to explain this? Consumer Sentiment Index is down as well. Could that be because offline retailer pushing for the seanal sale? Or people tend to be distracted at the years end? I know the day before holiday (labor day, thanksgiving, etc) are pretty quiet since people are pre-occupied with the coming holiday. Do we expect a pickup in January when the tax refund checks come in?

eBay is mail order. If what you sell is going to be used as Christmas presents, it’s getting too late for mail order. For what I sell, bidding picks up again after the first of the year, with January through mid March being one of the best times of the year. What your dead time is going to be is going to depend on what you’re selling, but for what I sell the dead time has already started, and I won’t relist till after the first of the year. This happens every year, regardless of the economy.

I would doubt that most tax refund checks will come in in January. — Deborah Stevenson [eliminate OBSTACLES to email me]

I don’t think the tax refund checks start coming until late Feb or early March for most people. Things do seem to pick up a bit in Jan. but there are also people getting the shock of credit card buying for Christmas so there is competition with people trying to pay that off.

been better in than it has been for awhile for me. often business picks up after christmas, though it was sporatic last year because of the on again/off again "we’re going to war" reports. robert
