Thanks for the info, but I am a little unclear on one thing. His check cleared. In other words, paypal received payment and his check cleared. Now I have to wait for it to be received in my account. Does that count as cleared? Is it good to be shipped? Thanks for clarifying!
If the check cleared then you shouldnt wait to get it into your personal bank account. Ship the item. if it clears, it clears. money is there no matter what, waiting for it to goto you personal bank account adds NO protection what so ever. You can have zilch in your paypal account and if someone decides to get their money back through paypal they will get the money from you one way or another. So waiting till the money gets into your bank account is not going to do you any good as far as protection. I had a chargeback from a creditcard once and paypal took it straight from my bank account. so it doesn’t matter where the money is, paypal or your bank account, if the echeck cleared, it is cool to ship.

However, strictly speaking, I don’t think you’re ever 100 percent safe with PayPal, as transactions can be reversed for all kinds of reasons. That doesn’t bother me, as all forms of payment have some risk involved, even cash. I just go with the averages and figure that virtually all my payments prove to be legit, and I ship as soon as PayPal payment is received, even e-checks. I get five or six e-checks a week, and have never had one bounce, and my buyers are much more cheerful come feedback time when they haven’t been made to wait. I believe Richard Ward and a few others here have reported some e-checks bouncing, so if you’re shipping an expensive item (and only you can determine what level you’re comfortable with) you might want to wait until the e-check is cleared, as you did in this case. Make sure your buyer realizes this.
