Question:
BTW How are your sales going on Yahoo? 6:1 over ebaY with similar accounts and identical ads

This is great news; I think I’ll start migrating my auctions over there as well. Rita

I wasn’t either. I was just asking a question of why these sellers would select a site that is giving them less exposure and a lot less sales than they would get on eBay. For the same reason that a company with a high traffic mall store also sells at a show. It’s a different source of sales. As long as it makes them money, it’s worth doing.
True, this would seem to be a great strategy. I’m considering testing the waters at Yahoo since it’s so inexpensive. I just couldn’t think of any other reason to administer CPR to a dead horse. BTW How are your sales going on Yahoo? 6:1 over ebaY with similar accounts and identical ads.
Congratulations, this is fantastic news. If I remember correctly you do extremely well selling metal detectors on eBay and have great feedback? There is a gentleman on Yahoo that is selling metal detectors and doesn’t seem to be moving very many of them, if any. He has been a member of Yahoo since May 14, 2003 and has yet to accumulate any feedback or shows any closed auctions. For a moment I thought that this was you, but have since discounted that idea since their sales don’t reflect a 6:1 record over eBay. Rita

A lot of people discount Yahoo as a selling venue, but in some cases it does just as well as any other. Those who think other auction sites will "save you too much on packing tape and boxes" are just too afraid to try anything else … or they’re eBay stockholders trying to scare you into not using any other sites. Personally, I have better success on other sites, too.

It’s a shame you’re such a bad researcher that you didn’t find the other account where we’re selling scooters. I understand you claim to sell on ebaY, but ebaY says there’s no one from — Outgoing mail is certified bollocks

Give me a break since I’m just starting to learn how to Google. Sorry, if had known you were selling scooters I might have looked. I remember from our past conversations it was your "friend" who was selling scooters and had drop-shipper and PayPal problems. I understand you claim to sell on ebaY, but ebaY says there’s no one from
Nor will you find it under that ID since I had to change it prior to eBay changing it for me. You remember, this bloody change was implemented to thwart them damn fee circumventers. Rita

The REAL eBay buster will be Froogle. And an incredible opportunity exists for the early adopters who can qualify for data feeds. But there is a curious gotcha: Froogle apparently considers any website whose prices are in a different table column as the description to NOT be a for sale page. You first have to convince them you have a forsale page before they will even qualify you and send you the data feed format. Apparently item, description, and price MUST be in the same table cell to qualify for the data feed format activation.
Huh? We signed up when they started about a year ago, and maybe they’ve changed things since, but back then the only restriction they placed was that each listed item be supplied with a URL taking the customer directly to a page listing that item for sale (trivially easy to do with any database driven website). They didn’t say anything about the format of our regualr catalog pages and I doubt they ever looked at them.

I’d like to give Yahoo a try, but I list thousands of lower dollar items monthly on ebay so Sellers Assistant is a must. Is there similar software available for Yahoo auctions or Amazon or Froogal? I can’t possibly go back to listing manually.

On Froogle you =must= bulk upload in a file created specifically to their format, you canot list one by one. Email them to ask about it.

In bulk listing on other sites, most have an xml or mdb file you can download and edit as necessary. Adding the information is pretty easy to do and uploading is as simple as uploading the file and verifying it. Yahoo also charges a person when their bill reaches $25 the first time, then they don’t charge a person again until their bill reaches $100. I’ve never sold anything on Amazon or Froogle, but they might have similar systems. I personally found Sellers Assistant a waste of time.

Cool, I’ll have to check that out. If I didn’t have Sellers Assistant, I think I’d have to hire a staff of 4 or 5. Which means I wouldn’t be doing this.

Ebay got there the firstest with the mostest.

We sent them our main bargain page and they said it wasn’t selling anything. — Many thanks, Don Lancaster Synergetics 3860 West First Street Box 809 Thatcher, AZ 85552 Please visit my GURU’s LAIR web site at http://www.tinaja.com

We do. With similar 0 FB accounts and identical ads, yahoo is outselling ebaY 6:1. Not saying it would work for everyone, but it’s working for us, plus yahoo fees are about half of ebaYs. — Outgoing mail is certified bollocks

Yes, I do see what you mean. Yahoo is definitely kicking dirt in eBay’s face by the dump truck load. For instance, Yahoo has an astronomically high 35 listings for Microsoft software, while eBay only has a dismal 3076. Granted, Yahoo’s sellers seem to be listing their items cheaper than they would normally on eBay, but they still are barely selling their merchandise. Now, I just did one search, but I’m sure that other items on Yahoo do sell better than eBay and bring in more money? Not saying it would work for everyone, but it’s working for us, plus yahoo fees are about half of ebaYs.
A point of curiosity, are most Yahoo sellers banned from eBay for various reasons? Rita

can Honestly, is it any more difficult for these same crooks to circumvent Yahoo’s high security? I fail to see how Yahoo auctions can be any more secure than eBay’s. Rita

If anything, the second tier sites should attack MORE scammers, not fewer. — Many thanks, Don Lancaster Synergetics 3860 West First Street Box 809 Thatcher, AZ 85552 Please visit my GURU’s LAIR web site at http://www.tinaja.com

Very true! The very few items of interest that I found on Yahoo for a fair BIN price and fair shipping charges were offered by low to zero feedback sellers that would only accept money orders instead of CC. These highly visible "red flags" are clear indications that they don’t want to sell their merchandise to me. Rita

I realize Ebay is the million pound giant of online auctions, but I wonder why it seems to be the only real place to list in town. Yahoo and Amazon both offer auctions, and given their ability to link to other searches, seem like they should have gained some traction, but don’t. I have never really had a problem with Ebay until recently, when I realized that, when you DO have a problem, Ebay’s customer service ranks slightly below Microsoft. Their concerns about fraud seem to be haphazard at best (and usually dependent on how much money you’ve helped feed into their coffers), and it seems as though you have to wade through seven levels of hell in order to find the proper areas to route your questions and concerns. So…. is there room for someone to take Ebay’s business away? Why don’t people use other services?
