DAMN!!! honesty's f**kin my auction!!

Question:

Another reason to use an image hosting service is that your space at your ISP hosts web pages. Sheane – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I wonder if half the people who use AuctionWatch, AuctionRover and/or Honesty (or places like that) have any idea that they probably have server space of their own through their ISP. Lisa Good question Lisa.  I’ve used my space on my ISP for all my pictures, some of my auctions have 3 pictures, (front, back, and the identification mark).  I thought everyone had plenty of space on their ISP, as long as they weren’t using AOL.  I’m missing something apparently, for me using my ISP to store my pictures has seemed to be the easiest and smartest way to go, but on 80% of the listings I see them using one of the ‘free’ image hosting sites. That’s cuz we don’t know how to do it! Programs like FTP Pro seem kinda difficult to use, but I did get it to work somewhat, it’s just that I don’t know where to go from the "transfer files from one box to another" window and where to go on Pacificnet’s website to get to my picture! Honesty.com members look out! their image hosting server is bugged out and the auction pics are not being shown!

You get what you pay for. Most ISP’s include five to ten megabytes of storage space on their ftp/http server for each user’s use.  And they’ll have much higher availability/reliability than a free hosting service.   [ 10 MB = 1024 KB; enough to hold +/- 500 JPG pictures, 20K each). If you’re doing so much eBay business that the 10MB from your ISP is too small – then technically (legally) you should be paying your ISP for a Commercial Account.  Then you’d have a LOT more storage available. why don’t they just use ebay’s own server when they submit your pic?

Currently, when you look at an auction page, all the text and the basic eBay graphics come from eBay’s site.  The pictures embedded inside an auction, and the one that gets you the ‘pic’ icon, come from the Seller’s site (his ISP or another host). Given the total number of page views eBay serves per day… Could you imagine how slow they’d be if ALL the pictures had to come from their site?  And how much they’d have to charge to provide the extra bandwidth???? <shudder Ouch.   – Dan. — – South Jersey, USA, Earth  <http://users.snip.net/~darmok – How come Silly Putty only comes in one flavor?

Yahoo’s auction store images on their server, not Ebay (and if they start doing it, you can be sure they will add a fee for this :o ) — JMSoucy http://www.fortunecity.com/tatooine/moorcock/876/index.htm
