Question:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Look at the SCAM close up… And you say people don’t understand how things work. Yeah, you will probably sell an item or two more a week as a result of the fact that people leave, but you will also pay more fees for ALL your listings. Do you really think you will be making a shitload of extra money because some sellers take their business somewhere else? Not only that but potential buyers will see that, as a result to the new fees, sellers will push their prices up to compensate and at the end of the day they can find the product cheaper in another online store. And if it makes the national papers, what do you think the articles will say? The articles will most likely tell the reader that sellers refuse to list their items for one day, due to a seller fee increase that forces the sellers to up their prices and shut down their businesses. How do you thin that will make eBay look? That will probably scare potential buyers away from going to eBay. But only time will tell. And besides, this one no-listing day has a lot less to do with wanting to hurt eBay as it has got to do with standing up for something. It’s a matter of principle. You should actually join in on it, or do you enjoy the fact that eBay keep increasing the fees? How much more fees will it take for you to say "enough is enough"? Your eBay business might not be as hurt by these new fees that will be implemented in February, and well, good for you. But, you should be grown up enough to show some respect for those few hundred sellers who are hurt by these new fees and for those few hundred who will have to shut down their eBay stores because of it. You should show some respect for those who dare to stand up against these fees. If no-one does it eBay will keep increasing their prices when they see fit, and eventually they fees will be so high, even you will flee with your tail between your legs crying about it. — Vidar Nilsen

Last time I checked, Ebay was not a charity.  Basic business economics of supply and demand.  They can demand higher rates because we will pay them until we really can’t afford not to.  At the moment, I can cover the raises, as can many others – and I can do this without having to raise any of my prices!  So, I am willing to take the percentage to ensure that my prices stay under other people’s – if they can’t take the raise, then let them try and buy a bricks and mortar store, and all the utilities that go with it. It’ll cost them a little more than $20 a month!  Some people want it all for nothing, and that is not the way it works. If you want to protest, then carry on – it’s your right, and you should never be denied the right to protest – but stop lumping us all in together, as many of the posters are doing – we are not ALL up in arms, we are not ALL protesting, and we are not ALL closing down our stores. If something better comes along, then I will happily dump and run.  At the moment, there is nothing better, I can afford the fees, so I don’t need to protest.  And as for the media – no-one actually trusts them anymore, so when they run stories saying that Ebay is collapsing, the first thing people will do is fire up that browser and go and have a look…..naturally inquisitive, the human race.  Why else would they click on "religious toast" or "adverts on my forehead"?  And if they hit a BIN while they are there, I will still say "Thanks" and treat them the same as any other customer who has made the effort to buy from me. There have always been other stores, online and otherwise, where buyers could purchase items for less or for more than they pay at eBay. That will never change. Lumpy — In Your Ears for 40 Years http://www.lumpymusic.com

NOOOOOOOO!!!! Let them get on with it.  If they don’t understand how this all works, and how much cheaper it is than a real store, then let them refuse to list on that day.  It just means that those of us that carry on listing will have less competition!  I am hoping it appears in the national and international press, because the more people that fail to list on that day (but list the day afterwards anyway, as we all know they will!), the more visibility we will have of our auctions.  And if it gets lots of press, we will get a lot more people clicking through to Ebay to see what the fuss is about!
