They are doing free listings – as long as you are donating to AFA. As badly as that is going vis-a-vis their stated goal of $100M, I doubt they are going to give anyone any incentive to get free listings just to help sellers. My prediction is a New Year bonus day just after Jan 1, 2002 when listings are traditionally low. I doubt if they would try to cram it in between Christmas and New Years, but it is a possibility if they need a quick fix to make their revenue targets. Bill Shaw toppsoft

This doesn’t answer this question, but I have begun adding a flashy red, white and blue "Your eBay Shipment" to my mailing labels (I use plain puter paper with 3 labels per page and often it is reused paper with something on the other side). With every one, or at least lots of people, worried about their mail, this insures that they know this is a package they are waiting for. I’ve done well on a couple of things but, for the most part, it’s an utter nightmare. I was doing *really* well a couple of weeks after September 11th but once the anthrax stories started up the drop was very noticable.

I’ve a seller in DC who hasn’t received any mail in over a week. I sent her a money order just as the whole anthrax thing kicked off, she hasn’t received it yet, but is sending out my package anyway. She’s getting some terrific feedback from me, that’s for sure. ‘kaat

In the month following the Attack my sales were 1/3 of what they had been, however they have picked up quite a bit in the last 2 weeks, I am hoping for a full recovery then a gain. Good luck!

Stuff as been selling and though I was hoping for an increase in Paypal payments it seems that people WANT to send stuff through the mail, I’ve gone from 75 percent online payments to 20 percent. Makes no sense at all to me but hey, money’s money. It will add a little bit of a headache with stuff moving so slowly both ways. TS IS MORE COWBELL!

Yes, there’s the anthrax scare, but according to yesterday’s report, consumer confidence has plunged to its lowest level in 7.5 years and current predictions are saying that this Christmas season’s sales may actually be lower than last year’s. In my case, I’ve had a higher successful auction completion rate than I ever had, though I know the prices have been higher in the past – but clearly some people are trusting the mail system enough to bid.

It bites to be in retail right now. Sales are down. And they are down far enough that the SBA is offering 4% disaster loans to give businesses the cash they need to help them cover operating expenses until sales come back to "normal". Boonie Girl
