Question:
first can I have my AIM s/n on my listings so bidders can IM me with questions( I’m planning on making a new s/n for this)? is it a bad idea or against eBay rules.
I’d suggest you stick to allowing them to E-mail you via the eBay route or an E-mail address you set up for this. If you have an AIM name in your auction and you’re not there when someone wants to communicate, it’s gonna be frustrating. If you are there and you have a popular item, you may not want all the IMs you’re maybe going to get. Just my opinion. — Donna http://www.teeshirtmemories.com http://www.scrapstitching.com

Hello , I’ve decided to clean my closet out and get rid of some of my stuff on eBay thanks for this forum I got some tips. first can I have my AIM s/n on my listings so bidders can IM me with questions( I’m planning on making a new s/n for this)? is it a bad idea or against eBay rules.
There shouldn’t be a problem with posting your messenger name in an ad, as it is roughly the same concept as posting your e-mail address or phone-number for people to get in contact with you. I’ve seen a few cases in the past where people list their MSN contact name and even state the hours when they will be online to answer questions. Some people in the past would actually embed a chat into their ad to take questions and answers. next I’m going have pictures on my listing of my item but I don’t want allot of pictures on the listing. can I have a link on the listing pointing to my webpage (personal webspace not commercial) with additional pictures showing the all the details.
Yes, you can link to another website AS LONG as the site only contains pictures for the item, and does not offer the item or others for sale outside of eBay. and what’s the optimal resolution I should have the picts and size.
I’d go with 640 x 480 max for the pictures in the actual eBay ad. eBay resizes pictures hosted on their servers down to 400 x 300, but then quite a bit of detail is lost. When linking them to a website for more pictures, you could make the images a higher resolution if you wish. The reason for the 640 x 480 recommendation in the actual eBay ad is to the page loads quickly and the user doesn’t have to scroll left and right to see the entire picture or description. Matt

I don’t know if it’s against ebay rules, but I would suspect so–it’s the kind of thing that makes them worry about off-ebay sales, which they hate. It’s probably also just a bad idea in general, as it makes your IM name available to anyone with a lot of free time on their hands; my cynical guess would be that you’d be getting a lot of random people messaging you who didn’t actually have an interest in your items. If someone has questions about the auction, they can reach you with the "ask the seller a question" e-mail form. next I’m going have pictures on my listing of my item but I don’t want allot of pictures on the listing. can I have a link on the listing pointing to my webpage (personal webspace not commercial) with additional pictures showing the all the details.
I believe it’s allowed to link to another page as long as that page is not selling anything; one that just has some more information should be okay. However, keep in mind that your potential bidders may not bother to click through to the more-info page. It might be better to just host your images on your own webspace and point the URI from your auction there, and keep all the text information clearly available in the auction body. Just my two cents’, and I’m a relative newbie too so take it for what it’s worth. :) -Bertha — Warning: Dates in Calendar are closer than they appear.
