– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – You can put a tracer on it, 30 days after shipment. It only went 40 miles; it can’t be that far lost. Kris LOL, you really believe that? It could be on the other side of the world. Just because the address was 40 miles away does not mean the package is somewhere in the vicinity and more. The likelihood is that it was misdelivered nearby, or is on its way back. Unless the OP put a customs label on it, or shipped to an APO, I doubt it’s in Cambodia. Kris LOL, sure, the post office NEVER does that.
In over 4,000 online sales, I’ve had *one* item reported as "undelivered". When I showed the buyer the Delivery Confirmation status online, he backed down quickly, saying "We’ve had trouble with our mail being stolen." A month later, out of curiousity, I emailed him and asked if he’d received it, and he said he wasn’t worried. I didn’t bother tracing it, because I knew he had it. But….messy handwriting and sloppiness will cause problems in any shipping situation. Kris

Wasn’t that about the time you had that incident in the restaurant in Phoenix? It’s been so long I don’t remember the dates well. But the way the local cops describe it, you were hilarious! Your website is a wealth of knowledge. Lumpy — In Your Ears for 40 Years http://www.lumpymusic.com

Allow me to agree with the good sense and correctness of Kris Bakers post. Using www.usps.com when shipping anything in the United States, personal or business is a wise move. It is the same as going to the U. S. Post Office when it comes to services, and there are no additional fees above the normal and customary at the Post Office itself.. If the package meets the posted guidelines you can have the mail man pick it up on his normal daily round, or just drop it off in any blue mail box (blue box is my personal preference). Mail Boxes Etc, as good as they are, charge an understandable additional fee when figuring postage services, etc…. That is money off your bottom line. As a drop off place for www.ups.com packages there is nothing more convenient than MBE, as they are everywhere. The only thing is that you may have to remind the store operator that they are directed by their owner, UPS, to accept all UPS packages ~regardless. I received a copy of the related proviso from UPS and keep it in the truck to politely share if I get guff from the owner. If I get to much guff I get a bit nervous and just go to another MBE. The one around the corner from the house here in Vegas is great. Using the Post Offices web site is a breath of fresh air, you can print your own shipping labels, put postage on your business credit card, etc… IMHO, you cannot beat www.usps.com . Understandably, there will be those that do not agree and have their own horror stories. Speaking from my personal experience only, "Hey, use the Post Office to their full capacity, and within your limits, and you will have no problems." I am a relative newbie to eBay, and sell only 10-15 packages of exciting Las Vegas touristy things every week. I plan to get bigger, and the Post Office, at this time, is my best friend.
I have had no problems, and wish you tons of luck in you endeavors.:) Don Strevel in Las Vegas http://www.mysecretvegas.com
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi there, newbie here, I know…i should’ve done either insurance or delivery confirmation… it was a 30 dollar item, but many of my items are only 5-6 dollars.. anyways, I sent out an item to buyer 2 weeks ago, (only 40 miles away), and she claimed that she still has not received item. I mailed it via USPS with no insurance or tracking. I am planning to refund her because i don’t want to hassle with all the my fault, your fault thing. My question is, what is the cheapest way of mailing out with some sort of tracking on USPS? I looked on their website and I can’t find anything. I spoke to the lady at USPS, and she told me you can only do delivery confirmation with Priority Mail. I’m like, wtf?? Thanks!! She’s wrong. Go to USPS.com and type "shipping assistant" in the search box. Download it, and use it to print your shipping labels. You will get FREE Delivery Confirmation on Priority Mail, and can add it for only 13-cents to any other package (including 1st Class). Another good thing about using it, is that you can verify the address, and it computes the 10-digit Zip Code. BUT….you need to put a tracer on that package. If you are hand-printing your shipping labels right now, and it became unreadable or illegible in any way, it could be coming back to you, going to the "dead letter office"…..or been misdelivered. You can put a tracer on it, 30 days after shipment. It only went 40 miles; it can’t be that far lost. Kris
Response:
When you mail them do you use a printer for the shipping label, or is it handwritten?? Do you use the extended zip?? I ask this politely not in "wrist slapping" but to understand better the situation so maybe I can avoid the same set of circumstances. I think we have all gone thru your experience once or twice in our lives.
Best of luck!

Not to pick on the Post Office here, considering the volume they move they do pretty good, BUT, anyone who would act like they think a "missing package" is "right around the area" is living in a dream. Often it is the senders fault, sloppy addressing, and or not protecting the address and it gets wet and smeared, but often it is just incompetence at the Post Office. They have a lot of employee’s and they have their idiots too. I have bought a hell of a lot of stuff online since it became possible to do so, and have seen some "interesting" stuff. UPS has pulled a few good ones on me too, but by far the worst, for me, has been Fed Ex. I don’t know what their problem is but every time I order something and they confirm it sent by Fed Ex I cringe. They seem to be able to screw up about 25% of the time, which puts them in their own league as shippers go. — Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view.

You will get FREE Delivery Confirmation on Priority Mail, and can add it for only 13-cents to any other package (including 1st Class). Doing it on 1st Class may require a packing dodge. Always get DC or tracking on every shipment, and make it your stated policy that you do (even at your own expense, if necessary). Doing so discourages the INR scammers from bidding on your auctions. If you are an inexperienced seller (and they can easily tell), and depending on item type, you at high risk of attracting scam buyers of various sort – which is not to imply that the present buyer is a scammer, or is not. — http://www.access-one.com/rjn email4rjn AT yahoo DOT com NOT speaking for any employer, client or Internet Service Provider.

Take it as a "lesson learned". you need to use a tracking of some kind to protect yourself. If the buyer paid with a CC they can get their money back. Whatever the cost of shipping with tracking just make sure it’s in the description of your auction. Makes life MUCH easier. — Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view.

I wonder if the address was hand-written? A zip code "9" could look like a "4", etc. I’ve not had any problems since I started using Shipping Assistant EXCEPT for the Ave/St typo that happened today…and I received a book back. That the buyer hadn’t even noticed was missing

You can still have the USPS trace the delivery after 30 days. If the item is undeliverable for some reason it can take 2 weeks or more for it to be returned to you. Ed
