Question:
Just seen this for the first time, why would a buyer with over 100 positive feedback comments and no negs select to keep the comments private. Paul

Maybe they buy potentially embarrassing items, or just don’t want people seeing what they’ve bought. Is this person also a seller?
Response:
was it my ex then?

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – … how do you do this ? http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?FeedbackOption You can turn it on and off. It still shows quantity of pos/neg and retractions etc but no comments… Correct. What is the point of feedback if you can hide it ? If there are no Negs, it suggests that the user wishes to be discrete about what sort of items they buy, or how much they spend. Or they might just be xenophobic. If there are generic Negs, the user might mistakenly think that concealing them is beneficial. It’s not, the presumption is that if you’re hiding something, you’ve got something to hide. If there are malicious Negs (e.g. reveal Private Info), the user might just be temporarily concealing them while awaiting removal by eBay, or perhaps via SquareTrade. (Private) is not as private as people think. You can still see all of the user’s recent bidding activity with an Advanced-Search-by- Bidder. And you can see FB-left by others, if you bookmark or stumble into the auctions that user has won.
Ok thanks guys, It makes a bit more sense, It would be nice, under these conditions if you could still see whether the hidden negs were for buying or selling though. maybe just sensor the comment & Listing ref but still show the S/B. Regards Mike

I’d a private feedback bidder with 7 unique negs showing, and less than 250 unique postives. I immediately blocked them and then cancelled their bid: reason: "private feedback; too many negatives". They emailed me, I explained what was up, and then they opened their feedback so I could peruse it. All of their negs were for selling issues: it seemed that they shipped late.
Why don’t they just open another account to buy with, I wonder? I’ve got three or four, and I don’t even have any negs…

It’s pretty simple: seller(Private) Warning – don’t bid from me! buyer(Private, NFB, 0FB or some -FB in count) Block me until I explain why buyer(Private, count entirely +) Email me. Search my bids. (Unless it’s obvious for other reasons) It would be nice, under these conditions if you could still see whether the hidden negs were for buying or selling though. And the date. The older an isolated Neg is, the less it matters. I don’t answer the phone to callers who have blocked their Caller ID. I don’t answer the door to people wearing masks (except on Halloween). (Private) traders are suspect until cleared. — Regards, PO Box 248 Bob Niland Enterprise which, due to spam, is: 67441-0248 email4rjn AT yahoo DOT com http://www.access-one.com/rjn Unless otherwise specifically stated, expressing personal opinions and NOT speaking for any employer, client or Internet Service Provider.

Case in point http://cgi2.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=noonoo49 It still shows quantity of pos/neg and retractions etc but no comments… There are two main uses for private feedback. 1. Someone posted your contact information or other personal information in your feedback, or post something absolutely scandalous or offensive in your feedback, and you make it private while you try to get eBay to remove it. 2. Someone posts a legitimate complaint in your feedback that you don’t want anyone else to be able to read. You could be selling stuff that you don’t deliver, you could be selling bootlegs, you could be a buyer who pays with hot checks, all of these can be hidden by private feedback. When a seller has private feedback, the simple solution is to not bid. It’s a bit different when it’s a buyer, you need to be careful but you can’t really do anything about it. I’ve had one recent buyer with private feedback, he had over a hundred positives and no negatives.

They won another item from me later, though, and they paid immediately and they left me positive feedback. =) link

buyer(Private, count entirely +) = Email me. Search my bids. (Unless it’s obvious for other reasons) By the way, a Feedback could be Positive, yet still contain something you need to redact, like a phone number, street address, or URL to a site devoted to attacking you personally, to speculate on degenerate cases.

It doesn’t even occur to a lot of people to have more than one ebay account. It would seem obvious: the ’suspended’ guy in that other thread figured it out. link
