Question:
I’m willing to take it back and refund her the purchase price (but no shipping either way). Obviously I’m out the insertion fee. Is there a way to get a refund of the Final Value Fee? Is it even worth it?
Doing the refund through PayPal is simplistic. Simply go to the transaction and click on the refund button. One even gets a refund for the PayPal fee. For the FVF: First complete the PayPal refund. This will remove the ‘paid’ tag from the listing. Then, from the My Ebay screen click on Unpaid Item disputes. Fill in the relevant details and you will receive the few cents back for the FVF. It’s worth doing, assuming you are on a cable modem and can complete the entire thing in under a minute once you have learned how to do it. Mike Hall

I sold a buyer some software for $9.00. She paid with PayPal and received it a few days later. Then she realized it wouldn’t work on her PC. She wants to send it back. I’ve never processed a return before, and I’m not getting a clear idea from eBay how to handle this? I’m willing to take it back and refund her the purchase price (but no shipping either way). Obviously I’m out the insertion fee. Is there a way to get a refund of the Final Value Fee? Is it even worth it? Anything else I should consider? Thanks in advance. -jk

The FVF on a $9 sale is hardly worth your time to get back. ef

Yes – usually for software sales NO RETURNS should be stated – what’s to stop your customer receiving the disk, copying it and sending it back "because it wouldn’t work"? If it wouldn’t work on her PC, she’s had the problem before and should have the knowledge to decide if it will work or not, or at least have the brains to ask. If you asked me, it sounds like she’s copied it and is screwing you. If you decide to refund you can get the final value fee back, but its a long process. Its been too long since I’ve done it so I’ll let someone else fill you in on how to get it back. Mike

Why on earth would you be selling software in the first place? This category is GUARANTEED to cause you grief. — Many thanks, Don Lancaster Synergetics 3860 West First Street Box 809 Thatcher, AZ 85552 Please visit my GURU’s LAIR web site at http://www.tinaja.com
