Do dogs drive away bidders?

Question:

I always ask about pets or smoke before I bid because I have ended up in the hospital because of my allergies so I have to be very careful.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have bid on things in the past where the seller was obviously a smoker and didn’t state it in the auction so when I received my item, it made me ill. Cig smoke is the absolute worst. But I didnt think pet odors or dander was so much of a concern.  I’ve had people ask me if this is a smoke free home but never a pet free home. Pam

Response:

says… There, I’ve said my piece, I just got sick of all the "you must be scum if you hate dogs" bullshit in this thread.

So, Rid, do you like dogs or not? —         Mac (doogle)

Response:

What do you sell? Is it clothing? Is it related to dogs?

We sell a big variety of things. Whatever we find at sales, both store and garage. Lots of books, mags and videos. Clothes occasionally. If you’d like I will send you a link to my doggie paintings via email.

Sure, go ahead What kind of dog do you have? I would love to see a picture but of course you can’t put it up in this particular NG

Golden retriever/setter mix. I can send you a pic if you’d like. Pam

Response:

Having to deal with people that *get rid of their dogs* there are many that use allergies as an excuse.

I know, I used to volunteer at an animal shelter. Very sad at times. And will something I send ‘cross country have this dander on it? Pam Nope not unless you have a dirty smelly house.

Not my house!  I’m a vacuuming fiend.  :) as long as you were not a BYB.

a BYB? Pam

Response:

I got a divorce over an UGLY PUG with no brains that my X wife had, do you think I would bid on your auction??  <G  Also people think dirt, allergy or it remindes them of their little "dear" that left the wet spots in the carpet. and yes, polen, dust mites and alergins trafel well on All the major carriers…         I’m with Hubby, Ditch the pooch. :-( Bob – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I recently added a picture of my dog to my about me page just because he is so gosh darn cute and I want to show him off. Hubby says potential bidders will see this dog and some won’t bid, either because they are dog haters or allergic to dog hair. I’ve seen many about me pages with pets of all kinds so… Opinions please. Do pictures of pets drive some bidders away?  We have no allergic people in our family so I am ignorant about this sort of thing. Does dog dander (or whatever causes the sneeze) ’stick’ to everything brought into the house? And will something I send ‘cross country have this dander on it? Pam

Response:

DC White wrote Cats and dogs send me running. I am very allergic. Unless the item can be washed.

If nothing is mentioned in an auction, do you specifically ask if the item is from a pet free home? Pam

Response:

says… If they don’t like dogs then you probably don’t want to do business with them anyway.

I dislike domestic dogs because as a species they don’t care where they shit or who watches them do it, they have no self dignity, don’t care if they smell, don’t care if they’re dirty, can be very loud & intimidating, some are practically lethal weapons (pitbulls etc.), aren’t independent enough meaning most of them *require* you to take them for walks and in this world of the concrete jungle, where are they gonna shit? yep, right on the pavement, and to cap that all off most dog owners don’t clean up after them & don’t care where their dog shits as long as it’s not on their property! Oh yeah and most dogs are annoying and ugly, NOT cute, especially the small yappy ones. Don’t get me started on people that think dogs look like humans or start dressing them up in "cute" clothes… I live along a road where there’s a primary school nearby, parents and young kids walk to/from the school almost every day (when it’s not raining) and it pisses me off when I see dog muck on the pavements they walk on. The local council are more worried about illegal parking than dogs illegally ‘dumping’, putting up the odd "
