Finds at swap-meets, garage sales, estate-sales, flea markets, etc.

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello, Any experiences regarding buying for Ebay resale at swap-meets, garage sales, thrift-stores etc. out in California? Is it me, or was the selection of items at CALIF sales, which have even the slightest chance of imited popularity on Ebay, overpriced? QUite dissapointing. Since alot of people have added to the diversity of CA over the past several decades, it seems there would be the whole gambit of items, and price-ranges. Yet, it seems that items, even those which are somewhat undervalued, are deliberatly overpriced in CA! Anybody have better luck in CA? Thank-you

In other words, Quite dissapointing. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Since alot of people have added to the diversity of CA over the past several decades, it seems there would be the whole gambit of items, and price-ranges. Hey Don,         I see your URL and the word ’secret’ in the same message — an impossible condition.  My head is going to explode again! Steve Silberberg Read "We’ll Kiss For Food" http://www.kissforfood.com/

Learn Spanish and oh what wonders you will find.  Many of the So Cal swap meet sellers are Spanish speaking.  Many times the sellers don’t know what they have in the way of ebayable items and don’t care.  They just want a return on their investment at last week’s yard sales, garage clean outs or storage locker auctions. Spanish speaking swap meet vendors often buy the boxed contents of full storage locker, sight unseen.  The owner of the contents has stopped paying the rent for one reason or another and the auction winner now owns whatever is inside. Often the vendor won’t open the storage locker boxes until he’s at the swap meet. As the contents come into view, you get a sense of the former owner’s taste/budget.  IF "good" THEN "shop".  IF "crap" THEN "go". More than once, I have watched the boxes being opened and I’ve felt like Howard Carter first looking into Tut’s tomb.  When asked if he could see anything inside Carter replied with wonder.  "Yes, wonderful things." And in the background, the Spanish speaking seller is yelling "Casi regalado!!!" – "Almost free!!!" or "Almost a gift!!"  And he means it. However; Something’s blowin’ in the wind and the times they are a changin’.  I have heard swap meet vendors include the word "eBay" in the middle of Spanish sentences…

Certainly what I’ve found at places like the Rose Bowl Swapmeet in Pasadena CA. I don’t even bother to go there anymore. Even here in Ventura, CA where I went one of the other 4 or 5 CA RG Canning swapmeets (Rose Bowl is one), some items were very high retail prices. — To reply by email, replace the word "space" with "renault"

What I’ve been seeing in our area (West MI area) over the past year is that swap-meets, garage sales, etc. are pricing their items according to eBay prices. Or at least it seems that way. Matty

Ah, I’ll almost second that. Antiquing is almost crazy now, and garage sales seem to be heading that way too… by the way, I’m in Ontario Canada. It’s rare that I can walk in to an antique shop / flea market / garage sale without hearing the word ‘EBay’ muttered somewhere… coop
