Question:
Hi there – I’m pretty new to e-bay – but thanks to my lurking on this group I’ve managed not to make too many mistakes so far! I do feel that I now have to ask a question – On the following auction, I’ve received an e-mail from ebay stating that the bid was withdrawn as the bidder is no longer a registered user. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1439899678 There’s no other bids at the time of this posting. My query is this – Judging by her feedback, she looks like a pretty good buyer. Can I still use e-bays internal email system to contact her and see if she is still interested in buying my books? I don’t want to p***s ebay off… Thanks for any help. Regards, Murray

Hi, Murray First, wait until the auction’s over. Most bids come at the very first or very end of an auction. Second, I don’t think her feedback situation looks *that* good. Sure, she doesn’t have any negs showing — but something happened just recently. If you read her feedback carefully, you’ll see she got a positive for "1st payment got lost, 2nd very timely" — "got lost in the mail" isn’t an excuse I personally accept, but that’s just me, I guess. (I don’t know how the second payment could have been timely!) She did pay, so it’s OK — but that’s 1 out of not very many feedbacks. *7* of her own auctions recently ended successfully – and I can see only 1 of her buyers leaving feedback for her. You’re not really so desperate that you’d offer the books to someone who has had some sort of recent problem with eBay (not paying the bill, shilling, NPBs, stiffing buyers, emails bouncing, etc), are you? IF you wanted to sell them to her, I’d wait to see if the NARU was lifted (in case it was something like an unpaid eBay bill or email problem) and then email her. If she still wants them, relist the auction with that price as a Buy-It-Now and let her bid. Then again, I may start offering books to her myself, if things don’t pick up! ;) Kris

Hi there, How can you tell how many auctions a person has had? Perhaps I’m jumping in too quickly as I’ve only read a hundred or so of the 2k+ messages here, so please forgive me if this is a question you may roll your eyes at
The reason I ask is, I’m very new to selling on ebay (got hooked reeeeal quick in the buying department). I have held 3 auctions all for the same item. 2 of the auctions were quite successful in that I was paid very quickly. Since I don’t want to be seen as a spammer, it’s difficult to explain but when you bid on my item, you must send me information in order for me to complete my end of the bargain. One person has not sent me the required info and yet has paid me! I have emailed him and he says not to worry, he will do so when he can and he isn’t afraid of being bilked by me. But what does this do to my newby standard? If you were looking at my item and contemplating bidding, and realized I had sold 2 and only one responded, you would think I was at fault, correct? Sorry for the length, but really could use some guidance. Best wishes, Bridget — He fed his spirit with the bread of books, And slaked his thirst at all the wells of thought.-Markham http://www.geocities.com/bridgethock

Go to eBay search — you can query for seller, bidder, item, etc. Just put their email address or eBay user ID in the "seller" block.
Thanks…after playing around with ebay more, I found it! You’re talking about feedback – right? Since sellers only get feedback on about 60% of their sales, your feedback will look normal. Unless there is *negative* feedback, no one should assume anything.
Ah…okay..thanks. Was a bit nervous about that. Meanwhile, I’m trying to figure out why someone would pay you, but not give shipping instructions. Beware, especially if this is a PayPal or BillPoint transaction and he wants it shipped to someone else.
Well, he says it’s personal reasons and doesn’t want what’s happening to be reflective in his writing. Thus the delay. Money went through fine. Thanks again for your help, Bridget
