Hot weather and estate sales, buying for eBay

Question:

It’s been hotter than a warm day in hell down in north Texas recently, and I’ve noticed all the estate sale merchandise has dried up the past few weeks.  You still get the same number of sales, but their hasn’t been a really good sale with lots of nice merchandise in a while.  Since this is Dallas, Texas, an area with a fairly signifigant population, it really isn’t reasonable to suppose that no wealthy people have been dying.  I guess their estates are just holding off for cooler weather to hold the sales. I generally check out the three day sales on Friday, make notes on what I want, and then hit them in order of their opening time on Sunday morning when the prices are cut in half, buying whatever was on my wish list that hasn’t already sold.  Last Sunday, there was only one sale with good merchandise, and when I got there, they had up signs that things were only 25% off, and said verbally that the prices weren’t going to come down to 50% at all.  I just left without buying anything last week.  I hit some sales today and everything I saw last week at that sale had been moved to a different estate sale, complete with the same prices.  They do claim they are going down to 50% off this weekend, I guess they don’t want to have to move it again.  The odd thing, there were two sales with nice merchandise this weekend, and both of them had merchandise that was priced too high, and that I had seen in other sales this month. I know that some people tend to cart around what doesn’t sell to their next estate sale, but I’ve never seen it this bad before.  Since the auctions are slow in the summer, and the flea markets died after June because of the heat, it’s getting hard to get merchandise.  Admittedly I’m still buying more than I’m selling (due to the slowdown in sales for the summer), but I was hoping to accumulate a bigger stash of merchandise for when sales pick up in the fall. Sorry if this rambled a bit, if you just drove around to preview six estate sales in three hours in 100 degree heat, only to find that most of them weren’t worth the effort, you might ramble a bit too. Response:

It sounds like they must do a lot of tag sales down there. Around here it seems like most of the estates are auctioned off, but there definitely are some tag sales.. I prefer the auctions my self, although sometimes I have to wait quite a while for the stuff that I’m interested in to come up, but I enjoy it so what the hell. Anyway I hope you have some better luck this weekend! — NASCAR fans, shoot your mouth off at the Loudmouth Racing Opinions Page! Read my rants or take a NASCAR quiz.
