I wouldn't do it but….

Question:

There’s no need to set up a new venue. Just pick one of the many free auction sites and go for it. I wouldn’t do it, but I wish a new site would start up and every spammer, hacker and every other asshole who hates ebay’s tactics would do everything possible to shut them down for about a month or two.  This would give them some real competition. Just thinking through some crazy bullshit, like I said I wouldn’t do it, but it would sure help some competition get a good start.  Ebay has become a bad apple.

Geeze, People, get a grip on reality.  Everyone went through these feelings when eBay decided to add an extra fee for using reserve auctions.  The word was to not list for a month, go to other auctions, and the list of how to get to eBay went on and on.  In a nutshell, nothing happened.  There have been many other auction sites try to compete with eBay and the sellers don’t make any money.  I really don’t see what the big deal is.  An extra dime for a 10 day auction?  If you think running an auction for an additional 3 days is worth it, then you are paying 3 1/3 cents a day.  To get an extra $5 or $10 in bids, ten cents is chicken feed.  Same for the extra nickle or dime increase in listing fees. Everyone bitches about the problems on eBay from customer service to the site going down.  Having been selling for 4 years, I can tell you eBay has never been better.  But it takes money to put together an operation like they have. Where else can you make the profit margins you are seeing for such a small investment.  Even those of you who admit to selling low cost items.  You couldn’t rent a store and make the kind of money you are making with eBay.  I say pay the money and quit yer bitchin’ or quit selling and hold garage sales all summer long.  Think about what a single advertisement in the paper would cost, driving around and putting up signs, and then haggling with everyone who shows up.  eBay is still a great deal.
