Labor Day Weekend Sales

Question:

I gave up on bazeboll after the second strike, years ago. —         Mac

Mac, everyone gets three strikes before they’re ‘out’.  Give ‘em a chance. Maybe next year.   ;) =) a.linklurker

Response:

says… By then, most normal people who normally watch TV will be numbed from the barrage of 9/11 stories on TV and will want a release. I don’t understand all this 9/11 thread in regards to Labor Day. I mean, Labor Day is 9/2 ??

Just thread drift.  It started out as "should auctions close on Labor Day weekend?" and then went on to other upcoming times that might affect sales. Deborah Stevenson

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – better. I’m trying to decide whether the period around 9/11 2002 will be good or bad. Who knows?  Probably a lot of people will be watching TV that day for all the rememberance things going on. (I won’t be among them, I don’t want to see the plane hitting the WTC over and over again) End auctions later in the day on the 11th…  I’m guessing 10pm -12 am Eastern might be good (that covers most of the US, as it would only be 7-9 pm on the West Coast).   By then, most normal people who normally watch TV will be numbed from the barrage of 9/11 stories on TV and will want a release. At least that’s what I’m thinking…. Bill

And I’m thinking that, even though it’s been a year, the nation will be too sad and depresed and won’t be interested in eBay or much else. . . I’d avoid ending auctions 9/11 or even 9/12. I think I’ll list on Tuesday 9/3 to end 9/10. David

Response:

Labor day, 9/11, back to school, etc… After my batch of auctions end today, I won’t be selling anything else until the second half of September. Lee Cao

Ok, I see. So, since you mentioned the baseball strike … —         Mac

I know, man; isn’t that ~lame~?!  Think they’ll ‘go’? Guess Soriano won’t be MVP in the AL after all…. oh, well.    ;) a. linklurker

Don’t.  To either. — "Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet."- Dave Barry

depends whether anything bad happens… that night probably won’t be so good, but the next will probably be business as usual. robert

I’m already numbed from the barrage of 9/11 stories on TV.  I mean, news channel talk shows have been debating within the past week of how much coverage their respective news channels should air. I think that most of the coverage will be in the morning, anyway. — Dan Sadro

(I won’t be among them, I don’t want to see the plane hitting the WTC over and over again) I know it’s tacky of me to wonder about it…. it’s just that I listed over one hundred auctions last year, on Sep 4th as my after Labor Day launch….and obviously…. What’s really funny about all of this calculating is:   if you’ve got something really really good, it doesn’t matter when it ends.   It’s just the run-of-the-mill, "what I usually sell" stuff that’s questionable. Kris Last year, my sales went crazy on 9/11 and were also great the next day.  Then they dropped out of sight.  My theory was that people were home for the first couple of days and didn’t know what to do with themselves, so they shopped Ebay. Actually, I’ve had "really good" stuff that didn’t sell the first time around and practically caused a riot the 2nd or 3rd time around.  It only takes two determined people to have a bidding war, and sometimes those 2 people just aren’t around (like over the summer).

I always define "really good" as something that sells the first time… and gets several bids or my purposely-high BIN is accepted.  Anything else, that has to beg for bidders, doesn’t meet that.   If I have to relist it, it’s a dog and I hate it. Kris

True….but the discussion basically boils down to "When should I end an auction in the next few days"….and 9/11 events will be starting right after Labor Day. Those waiting to start auctions right after the holiday weekend, may find themselves on 9/11 with no bids in the last few hours (when most come in).    That’s what happened to me last year, with over 100 ending. Tuesday.   Monday’s the holiday, and if people do travel, they’re just getting back home on Monday evening. Or…you can bank on less competition and just try some ending all over the weekend, as a test. I’m trying to decide whether the period around 9/11 2002 will be good or bad. Kris

day listing.  I avoid having auctions end on any holiday weekend.  Just listed a few to end Sept. 3 and Sept. 4   – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –
