Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi: Sorry if this has been answered ad nauseum in the past. I’ve been on ebay for almost 4 years and I JUST downloaded Mister Lister because I’m fed up with some of the glitching going on in manual listing. I know – what’s taken me so long! Duh. Anyway, I’ve looked ML over and it looks great. Just enter all the info for each item and save ‘em. Then "add the collection" to upload them all. However, my question is – does this mean that the auctions all will run exactly at the same time and end at the very same moment? If so, this is bad for a lot of my bidders because they like to snipe on a lot of my stuff at the last second. If the auctions all end at the same time, they won’t be able to do this. I’m hoping that Mister Lister may break each one up by a minute or so, but I don’t see any information about how this works. Is there a way to have each of the auctions staggered by a minute or so? Thanks for any info!!! Carniv4
I group DISSIMILAR items in the same collection. That way, the chances that someone will want to bid on say, software, a horse figurine, or a sci-fi book ending at the same time are pretty well nil. Then I stagger the collections by 5 minutes or so. If you run a lot of similar items, it may be worthwhile putting each in its own collection, then staggering the collection. I have done this as well with decent success. Cynthia
Response:
You can create separate collections; you don’t have to have one big one. I’ve had some recent comments by bidders that they didn’t like all my similar auctions ending at the same time, so I’m breaking things into smaller collections (or putting dissimilar items in one collection).
I usually only upload one-item collections for that reason. For me, the mail function of collections is to locally organize my information. I add my "Blue Widget" as a new item in my "Widget" collection, then save the collection. Then I copy the "Blue Widget" item to a new, temporary collection, and send it. Note however, that if you’re using IPIX, you’ll need to manually refresh the Ipix link in the new item. Sucks. Angie
Response:
Thanks to all for the info. I really would like to manually stagger my auctions so does this make ML pretty much pointless for me?
Not at all. Still MUCH quicker to list than the horrible sell your item page. Is there an advantage to preparing all of my single collection auctions in ML and then uploading them manually one by one than just doing it manually on ebay’s regular listing page?
Yes, absolutely. Quicker. Plus it usually works! Basically what I’m now asking is if ML is more reliable as far as listing items than the regular listing page (going "back" on that regular listing page gives me problems 50% of the time – lost data, weird "errors" about "no category selected" when it was selected, etc.). Is it worth the time to prepare it all in ML even though I’m still going to have to sit there and list them one by one? If it works smoother, I will do it through ML.
You’ll be pleased. Though not perfect, it beats the seller page hands down. Also, I have tested uploading a collection of 3 fake items to see how it works and it won’t let them load completely. I keep getting an error saying to make sure I’m connected to the internet. Of course, I am connected. I’ve tried it several times, both through my DSL and then through dial-up and then same results. It shows it transferring, but it always ends in error. Do I need to confirm with ebay somewhere that I will be using ML?
No. Sounds like you have run into the ISP "spam sensor" glitch. Here’s the fix (as usualy, this is NOT to be found anywhere except on a forum – why they don’t put it IN the program help, go figure): How to resolve common error messages Error Messages From the Mister Lister Composer 1) Please make sure you are connected… You will need to change some codes so that Mister Lister sends the auctions a different way. Just go to the "File" menu in Mister Lister and click on "Settings". Access the advanced settings window by clicking the "Advanced…" button. Then make sure the CAPS lock is on, and type in the following: Authorization Number: FT1589 Command String: TRUE Click OK. Go back to the Advanced Settings Window by clicking the "Advanced" button again. But this time type: Authorization Number: FT1590 Command String: lefler.ebay.com (all lower case) Click OK again. Go back to the Advanced Settings Window one more time, by clicking the "Advanced" button. This time type the following, with your "Caps Lock" on: Authorization Number: FT1591 Command String: TRUE This should take care of the problem. Close Mister Lister and restart the program for the changes to take effect. 2) User gets errors when trying to submit a collection while on a network or using a cable modem (aka behind a proxy server). You will need to first find out what your outgoing mail server is (sometimes listed as a SMTP server). The easiest way to do this is to ask your ISP. Then get the IP address for the proxy server. Once you have this information, you will need to change some codes so that Mister Lister sends the auctions a different way. Just go to the "File" menu in Mister Lister and click on "Settings…" Access the advanced settings window by clicking the "Advanced…" button. Then make sure the CAPS lock is on, and type in the following: Authorization Number = ML6110 Command String = the IP address followed by a colon and then the out going mail server Click on "ok" and then "ok" again and you’re done. Error Messages That Come From An Email 1) <EBAY_BULK needs to be closed You will need to change some codes so that Mister Lister sends the auctions a different way. Close Mister Lister and restart the program for the changes to take effect 2) <EBAY_BULK_ITEM_DESC must be done before ending the <EBAY_BULK_ITEM Our receiving computer for Mister Lister will only take 1000 characters in each line. If one line is longer than that, it will just send the extra amount to the next line. This usually doesn’t cause a problem unless the 1000 character limit chops one of Mister Lister’s codes in half. To avoid this, you just have to press the "Enter" key on your keyboard after typing a few lines in your description. This will not affect the way your listing appears and our server will be able to accept your collection. 3) Unknown mailer error 139 The returned error looks like this: —– The following addresses had permanent fatal errors —– "| ./Soho/soho-script" (reason: 139) —– Transcript of session follows —– 554 5.3.0 "| ./Soho/soho-script"… unknown mailer error 139 You should note the time that the email was sent, and send it to email correctly. No Error Message Was Received 1) You sent your collection, but it never made it to the site nor did you receive an error or confirmation email. To check the settings, click "File" and then "Settings…" in Mister Lister. There should be an area to place your email address. If this is filled with other information like your user ID, then the batch will not go through. Just correct the information and Mister Lister should function correctly. 2) Collection is too large. Occasionally the traffic on our servers is so high that large collections disappear. Please limit your collections to 60 items, and resend. === Mac

They will end within a few seconds of each other, if not at the same second. If you don’t want this to inconvenience buyers, then do multiple batches of Mr. Lister, each with a few items that are substantially different from each other.

Yes, Mister Lister is a little buggy, but it’s still much better than their listing page. If you lose it, at least the description and all is still saved on your drive. Angie — Indyattic on AOL Instant Messenger

The only time I’d think it would hurt (and this is where I’ve had the comments) is when you are auctioning identical items in separate auctions. I could have had a bit better bidding war on three identical items last week, if they’d not all ended within microseconds. Kris

ML loaded auctions all end close to each other, your buyers should use a 3rd party sniping site like esnipe or similar and then they can snipe loads of auctions at once and not think about it ;o) — http://www.ebayshops.com.au/stormstrucksshanty

Yes, they will all end withing seconds of each other when whole collection is posted. See Kris’ comment. I sometimes make 20 or so auctions in different collections, all with single item (often using "new from template".) Drag is, you have to sit there and start them at 5 minute intervals, whatever. Some people find it more expedient to make big collection, then copy/paste to different ones for 1 or more items. Anyway you do it though, you have to start them manually, one after another a the intervals you want. Vrane has paid for service that will start them for you automatically. Not too pricey IF you do alot of auctions. — Mac McDougald Doogle Digital – www.doogle.com

Aren’t they all dummies on those boards anyway? I’d expect them to have problems. Ugh. They do have problems. I don’t get it: I’ve experienced none of what is described there by anyone. No hangtime – at least not TL hangtime: I *am* getting ~mass~ air on the board, of course (no, not on the ebay help board, though those boards are full of air!
). My updates are in in under a minute ~everytime~. I also check for updates before beginning any spate of uploads. I don’t like the ebay boards. Not a lot of good help there: the quotient of nin-com-poopery divided by actual help is *miniscule*. And *no* humor. Boo. No more ebay boards for me, thanks. a. linklurker

As you well know, Turbo Lister is totally free. The one new pay feature of scheduling auctions is an overall eBay thing, not limited to TL. It runs on everything ML did, except Win95. Great! I’ve got some copies of 3.1.
ML didn’t run on 3.1 either, as you well know. That’s the non-sensical broken record part. Mac

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – says… Apparantly those options are no longer in ML. I guess eBay assumed they fixed it. AFAIK, I’m using the latest US version. Hers is Canadian, tho. It’s also possible that with the larger fonts she was using, it prevented her from seeing that postion of that window, similar to the bottom part of the other window. Thinking back on it, it seems to me there was something that came up accidentally that said "do you want to change these settings"? Once changed, it worked fine. I’m betting now that she’s changed her fonts, that portion of the window will appear on hers, too. I’m always curious about this sort of thing, too. Annette, you gotcher ears on? Do you SEE those video settings in Mister Lister now? If you do, there’s a chance you can set them and also reset your puter’s video rez to make everything more readable. Mac

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello! I have been lurking here for weeks and I have learned sooooo much! Great resource, thanks for the info. and for being here. Now, I have a problem, I wonder if someone can help. I have had ML installed since October but didn’t need it until now. When I first looked at it last Oct. it was fine, now though look at this screen shot at this link: http://www3.telus.net/ta-palmer/misterlister.jpg If you look at the bottom of the "Add Item" screen, it’s cut off or munched up or something! I don’t have access to the bottom with the payment options and whatever else may be there. I’ve ‘repaired’, uninstalled, redownloaded, reinstalled to no avail. I dont know what else to do. I have about 100 items to list and I’m not about to list them manually. From what I’ve read I don’t want nor do I need TL but it may be my other/only option? …a footnote, I’m running Windows XP, AMD Athlon, XP1900+, 1.6 GH, 512 megs ram. My screen is set at 1024 x 768, 32 bit colour. Thank you, Annette eBay ID: heyannette

Since I don’t have Mr. Lr. handy, I can’t give you precise details, but poke around in the settings. If you can’t physically make the window bigger by dragging the sides out (resizing), then you’ve got a bad setting in the display. I had a similar problem, and it’s a setting in view or one of those areas for 600×800 or 480×640 or something stupid that needs to be changed. If you can’t find it, holler, and I’ll reinstall on this machine and find it, but please try to do it yourself for while first. — My school colors were clear. In Mister Lister? My only options are eBay User Info, Location, and Preferences with a button to select called ‘Sticky Behaviour’ whatever that is. Thanks, Annette
Response:
Apparantly those options are no longer in ML.
— My school colors were clear. We used to say, "I’m not naked, I’m in the band."

I’m always curious about this sort of thing, too. Annette, you gotcher ears on? Do you SEE those video settings in Mister Lister now? If you do, there’s a chance you can set them and also reset your puter’s video rez to make everything more readable. Mac

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi Fred, I just changed my font from 125 % to 96 %, and Mr Lister is all fixed up!!!!! Thank you!! Never mind that I can’t read the screen ’cause the font is so itty bitty. ;) I hate fiddling with the font, which is why it was the only thing I hadn’t fiddled with to see if it fixed my prob, now I’ll lower my screen res and see if I can read my screen again. Annette The setting I was trying to recall, in my version of Mr. Lr., is at the top of the Mr. Lr. Screen: file settings preferences 640×480 or 800×600 for large fonts, 800×600 or higher, greater than 800×600 for large fonts. Mine works best on 800×600 or higher, but it sounds like you would want to select greater than 800×600 for large fonts — My school colors were clear. We used to say, "I’m not naked, I’m in the band."
Hi Fred, I don’t have these options in Mr Lister preferences. See this screen shot for my actual options. I’m thinking the Canadian version is different than the US one. http://www3.telus.net/ta-palmer/misterlister2.jpg I haven’t changed my screen res. I may just get used to it this way. Thanks again, hope you are having a nice weekend. Annette

Thanks, Annette You don’t have three video rez radio buttons under "sticky behavior"? Sure you have latest version? Or maybe they dropped this in latest version? I’m looking at ML 3.0.22.56 USFP 1.0c, last one I had before, like Richard, I started using Turbo Lister. So I dunno what’s up. If indeed ML has dropped those settings, you might look at your puter’s video settings, especially if you have large font setting enabled. I believe that’s the basic glitch is running 640×480 or 800×600 with large fonts enabled in video driver (or somesuch). Mac
Ah I indeed do have the larger font enabled, 125%, never thought of that. I will compare version numbers. No options below sticky behaviour. Thank you so much! Annette
