Newbie Question Re:Directv

Question:

Hopefully I’m not repeating a recent question. I looked through the posts but saw nothing that might help… I have Directv in my house and recently acquired a second complete unit that I’d like to use in the RV.  Question:  Those of you that use it, do you have two accounts? Or do you use one unit between the house and RV?  I don’t mind moving the base unit from home to RV as long as I can use a separate dish. (Don’t want to have to remove the one from the roof.)  Also, any recommendations on a portable mount to use in campgrounds would be appreciated. Thanks, Mosey

Get a "second bedroom" receiver….. just tell Direct TV it’s in the second bedroom…..$4.99 a month.  Put that one in the RV. If you don’t want to do that you can move yours in and out of the RV from the house, but you’ll have to buy another dish so you might as well get the dish and receiver. Radio Shack sells a tripod you can set the dish on… get 4 feet of PVC attach to the dish, stick dish into tripod and tighten nuts.  Use tent stakes (Walmart) to hold the tripod down tight in the ground. We have Direct TV.  We bought a second receiver and dish and that went into the RV.  When we go camping, we call Direct TV and tell them to turn off the house unit and turn on the RV unit.  As long as you don’t have both units on there is no extra charge for this.  We bought our second system when Montgomery Wards was going under.  You can pick up units at garage sales. We paid $50 new for ours.  We find this much easier then having to pull the house unit out as it is hooked up to a surround sound system. You will just need to give Direct TV the model, serial number, and number of the access card.  Tell them it is in your RV. We had some communication problems with Direct TV when first setting this up. If you feel like the person it not understanding what you want then ask to speak with their supervisor.  Like I said, we do not pay anything extra for this.  You won’t be able to buy Pay-Per-View in the RV but you will get all of the same programming you do on the house system. There is even a form they will send you that wil allow you to get network feeds for the RV. Gale

Please be careful when buying a receiver at a garage sale. I bought one for $75.00, and when I tried to hook it up, I found that it had $96.00 worth of unpaid bills agains’t it, and I couldn’t hook it up until they were paid. The up side was that I resold it on Ebay, after describing it in detail, including the fees due. I sold it to a Canadian, who, I supposed, had a way around that problem. I did get a dual LNB inthe deal, though.
