What does ebay do about ticket scalping on ebay ?? Do they just discontinue the auction or what
Arent most items there scalping items, not just the tickets?
Response:
No, Ebay does nothing. Ebay will say that it is up to the seller to know the laws regarding scalping that apply to where they live. And, given the inconsistency of the laws regarding scalping from state to state and city to city, I can understand Ebay’s reluctance to enforce. (Of course, I also believe that Ebay is leaving themselves exposed by facilitating potentially illegal transactions.) If you want to report someone scalping tickets, contact the Attorney General of the state where the seller is from. says… What does ebay do about ticket scalping on ebay ?? No idea what Ebay does about it. Then again, what exactly is scalping? If I buy an item for $5 and you bid $150 and win, you’re happy because you really wanted the item bad enough to bid that high. If I sell you a $50 ticket for $150 though, I’m scalping. I could never figure out the difference, or how one determines when one is being scalped. In an auction, you pay the high bid, regardless of the amount. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – What does ebay do about ticket scalping on ebay ?? Do they just discontinue the auction or what
Response:
It really depends on what ebay thinks they’ll get or lose out of dealing with anything in particular. For example, I live in Nashville, TN and our NFL team (the TN Titans) plays some noname team out of FL or something tomorrow for a possible entry into the superbowl. Tickets for last week’s game against the Indy Dolts went like hotcakes on ebay, scalping is legal in both TN and IN. Tomorrow’s game’s ticket’s are a no-no as scalping is illegal in FL. I guess ebay figured they were under enough scrutiny over this particular game that they have forbidden all ticket sales for the game. I don’t have tickets to sell but if I did I think one could legitmately get around it by giving the tickets away for free to the highest bidder on something else, say a tshrt. Makes sense to me anyway.

So what is ticket scalping? I sold a Disneyland ticket from the 1950’s in the Disneyland collectible section. It was an entrance ticket to the park and the price on the ticket was $1.75 but I know that Disneyland would let you use it to get in so it has value both to collectors and to Disney fans who want to get in the park. So do I have to sell that item for its face value? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It really depends on what ebay thinks they’ll get or lose out of dealing with anything in particular. I really doubt if anyone would want to use that ticket to get in these days… ";-/
