Shop around.. see if you can get a pre’95 warwick – a corvette ,or a streamer. try to avoid the rockbasses, but yeah – for funk n slap they’re spot on (imvho) Nick.

Hi all, I am in a similar quest, just in the opposite direction… I am searching for a cheap bass with at least reasonable tone, in order to use for rehearsals and gigs and parties in not so secure places. I would not like to have some of my other basses stolen (Musicman Stingray, Warwick Corvette and Wood fretless). This last brand (brazilian factory) sells very nice instruments, having been awarded in NAMM. I am testing some Tagima Jazz Basses (Sejin Tagima is a local luthier who has now a factory with some nice instruments). (see picture at http://www.musicware.com.br/sd/tg525.jpg) I have seen some used ones here for aprox. US$200… Just wanted to share with you…

As you’re in UK look out for Status kit. There’s usually something on ebay at about that price. I have a Groove 4, which does all that, and if you fancy something a bit more modern a Stealth (graphite) went at
