They are made in China and of very poor quality. I believe that they are made in some of the old Chinese government owned factories. The government is trying to keep people employed more than make a profit. The quality of the tool is so low that the best word I can think of to describe these tools is "comical." I’m sure that the seller is making a profit. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from him (if I wanted a gag gift). His feedback is actually better than the numbers would indicate. Most of his negs are coming from people who complain about the quality of the tools. The insurance is just a way to get a couple more dollars. George.

Right, but I thoughtyou cannot do your OWN insurance? Also are they not circumventing eBay fee so they do not have to pay a larger % on their sales, and that is why the high ship? Hannah

You’re not supposed to murder or rob people either. I think the guy’s feedback is pretty telling about the quality of his widgets. "Fisher Price Toy Drill" "My payment got there fast! His drill broke even faster" Lumpy — In Your Ears for 40 Years http://www.lumpymusic.com

As far as I know, there is no prohibition against self-insuring. A number of eBay sellers do it. Also, self-insuring is common practice in the B&M world. Also are they not circumventing eBay fee so they do not have to pay a larger % on their sales, and that is why the high ship?
eBay doesn’t seem to go after this type of fee avoider very aggressively. So long as there is some reasonable correlation between your shipping cost and what you charge your customer for shipping, eBay will leave you alone. I would say that this particular seller is not coming close to what eBay would consider fee avoidance. George.
