Hello, I’ve owned a TS-9 modded by AnalogMike, and I have the opportunity of playing with a friends original TS-808. Both fine pedals. I purchased a Tone Pump from Dave Barber, and more recently a "Burn Unit" from Barber, and have never looked back. The Tone Pump does all that the TS – 9 does and then a lot more. The Barber pedals are more expensive, but I’ve never questioned either decision after putting them in my rig and playing a Strat, Tele or Les Paul through a variety of amps. Single coils clean up pretty well with the Tone Pump when you drop the guitar volume. Guitars don’t clean up as well as with the Burn Unit, which is currently on my pedal board and going to stay there for some time to come. The TS-808 original pedal that I have access to is a fine pedal, but when I look at the prices of used 808’s, and then compare what the Tone Pump will do, there is no question in my mind about owning the Tone Pump. AnalogMike is a very good outlet for pedals, but I don’t think he carries the Barber stuff – I went direct to Dave for the Tone Pump, and then purchased from one of AGA’s contributors the Burn Unit. Don’t know for sure, but the pedal doesn’t suck tone if it is working properly so why bother? But if you wanted, you could make a little bypass box with a swich, a couple pair of jacks, and a little hammond enclosure. There you go – instant true bypass to any pedal! Did you post this to alt.guitar.effects? I bet someone makes one with a bypass. Thorny

the new Maxon re-issues are all true bypass I believe. They sound exactly like the originals, plus true bypass. great pedals

AJS is correct. Maxon claims to be the original manufacturer of the TS9 and has just introduced a new line which replicates the originals but with true bypass. I think the model you’re looking for is dubbed the OD-9. Check the latest mags for ads, or check them out here: http://www.musictoyz.com/max9.htm- $145.
