What is it with sellers and their dark pictures?

Question:

WHAT IS IT WITH MOST BUYERS AND THERE BOTTOM FEEDING ATTITUDES!!!

Very positive attitude.  You’re selling merchandise, so you decide that it’s all your buyer’s fault that you aren’t making money.  If an item sells for $200 in a shop, you can buy it for $100 in a flea market or estate sale, and it only sells for $100 on eBay, the problem isn’t the buyer’s attitude, it’s that eBay is a different market than a shop, and if there isn’t enough profit to sell the item on eBay the solution isn’t to berate the buyers for not paying enough, the solution is to find different merchandise with a better profit margin. This attitude didn’t start with eBay.  I go to a lot of flea markets to look for merchandise.  I’ve seen several dealers who seem to have the exact same merchandise every month, sometimes having the same piece for a year or more.  They have their price guides handy, and have their pieces priced at what you could buy the item for at an antique store, sometimes for more.  When they sit around chatting with each other, the common topic of conversation always seems to be how buyers are bottom feeders, who don’t understand the real value of the seller’s merchandise.  In some cases, we’re talking about huge flea markets, with thousands of sellers, and huge numbers of potential buyers.  These dealers never seem to understand the basic flaw in their logic, that if no one in this huge buyer pool wanted a particular piece at the dealer’s price over the course of a year, then the dealer was the one that didn’t know the real value. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Richard Ward

My guess is that presentation adds 20% to my sales volume and prices.  Is the extra work worth it?  Only if the item is either a) expensive, or b) something you have in quantity and will be selling serially. And only if your imaging and editing skills allow for speedy production.

I try and produce excellent images for all my items, wether they’re only
